Dear Friend,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I greet you warmly and thank you for stopping by. Welcome to SHOLDER.
You may be 50 years old and above, or younger but whatever your age, I welcome you because we are family. Recent statistics show that Kenya is home to approximately three million people above the age of 55.
While recent trends show that the older generation is being sidelined, we believe that an intergenerational approach to life is important. This is where people of all ages work together to find the best way to address human problems that beset every stage of life.
SHOLDER, short for Service and Hope to the OLDER people, is a Trust registered in Kenya since June 2016 to address the social and spiritual needs of the older people. While it recognizes that they experience special problems attendant to old age, SHOLDER stands against stereotyping by society that leads to sidelining them, as well as their own defeatist attitudes that often result in diminished self-worth. We value the divine design of family that sees older people as an asset in a holistic inter generational co-existence.
SHOLDER offers a charity platform ready to be a shoulder for the elderly to lean on and work shoulder-to-shoulder with other organizations and individuals to improve the lives of the older people in Kenya and beyond. We provide support through home visits, phone calls, joint meetings and training sessions.
SHOLDER is currently working to set up a call centre that will be a single access point to all matters concerning the elderly. This will include but not be limited to legal, social support, regulatory information, as well as emergency and medical support information. We envision this as a key resource to every member of the community.

This is the hub of advocacy and service delivery.
We identify the needs of older people in specific areas like food, health, counselling,legal, relational etc and develop ways to meet the needs. We monitor service points for older people, report on visits and the services undertaken while highlighting best practices.

SHOLDER underscores the urgency of tapping and capturing of the wisdom of the older people. We encourage and facilitate recording through writing and where necessary oral recording. We are the keepers and transmitters of intergenerational information to and from the older people and we safeguard all compiled data and also ensure information laws such as copyright are respected. Additionally, library, publication, public relations, publicity and branding are all in this portfolio.

The Hope Committee is the spiritual stem of SHOLDER that facilitates corporate prayer while building and nurturing
relationships with church and para-church organizations.
THC organizes systematic prayers and fasts for SHOLDER members to bring the hope of salvation, care, comfort and counselling to the older people through regular visits and telephone calls.

We endeavour to bridge the widening generational gap to enhance God’s idea of family where young and old live harmoniously helping one another.
To this end we facilitate teachings and mentorship programs to help the young and old understand each other as well as seminars on entrepreneurship to build and support intergeneration enterprise.
